Welcome!
Hi, I’m Katie Marthins, the artist behind Painted by Katie Marthins, LLC. I create custom watercolor paintings (sometimes live!) that celebrate the pets and places that mean the most to you. My work is all about capturing meaningful moments and the little details that make each story unique.
Whether it’s a home, a pet, or a one-of-a-kind keepsake, I put care, attention, and a little bit of heart into every piece. My goal is to create art that feels personal, approachable, and something you’ll treasure for years to come.
My Story
I’ve been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. I took art classes throughout high school and discovered just how much I loved creating, especially during my senior year when I found success in AP Art. But when I headed to Dickinson College, I took a bit of a detour from the studio.
I entered college as an undecided major and a Division III field hockey player. After my first semester, I declared Art History as my major, and for the next few years, I spent my time reading, researching, and writing about art rather than making it. At the same time, I had started taking commissions outside of school. Since my senior year of high school, people had been ordering my street sign drawings, house paintings, and pet portraits—and I quickly realized how much I missed creating.
After stepping away from field hockey my junior year, I decided to make more room for art. During my senior year, I began taking studio art classes simply because I wanted to create again. Those classes completely changed the way I saw myself as an artist. I gained confidence, learned techniques I had previously taught myself, and, most importantly, rediscovered my love for making art.
I graduated from Dickinson College in May 2025 with a degree in Art History and no clear idea of what my career would look like. I knew, however, that I wanted to give my passion for art a chance. That summer, I began painting live watercolor portraits at weddings while assisting a local artist. The experience gave me the confidence to realize that being a professional artist could actually become my career.
In January 2026, I officially started Painted by Katie Marthins. Today, I’m constantly looking for new ways to grow my art, connect with people, and bring meaningful moments to life through watercolor.
Live painting has given me a completely different love for art. There’s something incredibly special about watching someone’s face light up when they see a painting made just for them. Those reactions—and the connections that happen through art—are what continue to inspire me every day.
